Liquorice, another ingredient in this toothpaste has a distinct sweet taste often associated with confectionery. The roots of liquorice are chewed to freshen breath naturally. Other herbs in the toothpaste give it an astringent and refreshing taste. Tragacanth gum is a water-soluble mixture of polysaccharides obtained from the sap of theAstragalus gummifer plant. It is tasteless and odourless and is useful for binding the herbs together.
